Remodeling for Empowerment and Progress (REAP) for Female Sex Workers
The Remodeling for Empowerment and Progress (REAP) for Female Sex Workers in Owerri, Imo State is a U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) funded project.
REAP is a capacity building and vocational skills acquisition project designed to enhance the vocational skills of female sex workers in Imo state with provision of training,start-up trade tools and mentoring. The goal of the project is to improve economic status of female sex workers in Owerri, Imo State Nigeria.
This project plans to minimize risky sexual behaviors among female sex workers and create a sustainable immediate income generating business for some of these female sex workers.This project will remodel, empower, and diversify the economy of FSWs by creating sustainable small businesses to enhance income generation.This will harness and channel their passion, capacities and talents for positive social change and also give them a healthy option to sex trading as a means of livelihood.The project will provide needed training and employment opportunities, diversify income streams, encourage use of local resources for income generation, promote a culture of entrepreneurship, and improve basic economic and living conditions of selected FSWs, their families and friends; and purchase income generating-equipment for selected trainees for several vocational activities.
